For the final assignment, I need to interview two members of the board of directors of a company. I decided to contact companies this week to increase the chances of getting a response. I prepared questions and sent emails. Now, I am waiting, hoping for a response.

Week 8 Assignment: Signature Assignment: Consider Global Decision Support Systems

For this week, revisit the concepts of organizational intelligence (OI), competitive intelligence (CI), and business intelligence (BI) in regards to decision-making processes. Interview two (2) members of the board of directors from one company (preferably the organization from the fourth week) concerning knowledge transformation and global decision support systems (DSS). In addition to your inquiries that derived from your research, inquire about (a) the benefits and buy-in of global decision support systems, which include global studios (i.e., visual collaborations); (b) the process of deciding how global DSS may be implemented within the organization; and (c) how ethics may become compromised in deploying global DSS. Conclude how global DSS may increase the presence of global partners, which may involve off shoring to micro enterprises.

Work continues

I have two assignments/activities for week 7 - a discussion post and a paper. I am currently working on the assignments. I also decided to start working on the final, signature assignment for the course (the week 8 assignment), which requires interviews with two board members. I need to find two willing board members. More time will help.

Week 6 assignment completed

I did a lot a research for this assignment. I searched and searched for information on how macro companies managed a workforce of micro companies. My Google searches were the most useful (see screenshots of some searches below).

The assignment is now complete.

Making progress with assignment

Finally, internet connectivity went back to normal in the lab. (My personal blog has a post on this.)
Maybe the staff here were working on an upgrade or some other "thing." When I arrived, I found the Cabana Beach website up and open on all computers.

The assignment this week:

For this assignment, be sure to:
* Compare and contrast micro and macro enterprises and provide examples of each being careful to define all terms.
* Evaluate how leaders of macro enterprises manage a diverse workforce of micro enterprises that specialize in the decision-support systems.
* Examine and assess the characteristics of small business, which are used as measures in the selection process that aimed to focus on best practices used for developing decision support systems.

When I started, I recalled micro enterprises from economics, but did not know much about management of these firms by macro or larger enterprises/companies. I spent a lot of time looking for articles and thinking about when & how macro enterprises would manage the micro enterprises. Some of what I came up with - when a macro enterprise acquires smaller companies (area: mergers & acquisitions), when there is some alliance or partnership etc. I found general articles on the topic - not articles specifically on decision support systems. I will read what I have and search some more later. This is a tricky assignment.

I just submitted the week 5 assignment. It was an interesting assignment. I got a little tired near the end.

Still working on my assignment

I am am currently putting the presentation due this week together - and close to finishing. This presentation will include (more) information on the use of collaboration technologies in other areas of a company - contract management, supply chain management etc. In the past, I worked on a contract management system/application employees & contractors used to collaborate on the review and approval of task orders, invoices, and so on. I will draw on that experience. Work continues.
